Moon by Simaudio’s new flagship series, the North Collection, will comprise six models in all, four of which will gradually be rolled out in the coming months, and two of which were released this month in time for the Toronto show. Powering a pair of 3-way, 90dB-sensitive Bowers & Wilkins 801 D4 speakers ($48,000/pair), the Moon combo included the 791 network player with phono stage ($21,0000) and 200Wpc, dual mono 761 amplifier, a design that employs no global feedback but does implement a propriety distortion-cancelling feature called MDCA (Moon Distortion-Cancelling Amplifier) that reduces distortion to a reputedly infinitesimal level. Cardas was the wiring of choice.

All I know is what I heard, and what I heard from Tidal-sourced files streamed from a tablet was sound that was substantial yet clean, robust yet textured, powerful yet refined, with a diverse palette of well-resolved timbres. The experience made me eager to hear the rest of the models in the line.
